From Justice for Keith LaMar...
Dear friends/supporters,
Please take a moment to read this VERY IMPORTANT update in Keith's case: Late last week, court-appointed counsel for Keith/Bomani filed paperwork requesting the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals remove them from his case. We aren't sure exactly on what basis these requests were made (perhaps they read his book?); nonetheless, Keith is happy at this news, because he had lost all confidence in his legal team back in 2012 and hasn't really even spoken to them since (see below for the explanation why).
Here's what Keith needs from us, his supporters: We have a slim window of time to appeal to the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund to step in and assume his case, before the court assigns him new legal counsel who could potentially be very green and unprepared for what lies very nearly ahead. We have to operate under the assumption that the courts will allow his lawyers to come off his case, thus we want to pursue the NAACP now. Perhaps with our positive pressure, they'll be more inclined to agree to become his counsel.
ACTION STEP: Would you please commit to sending a letter of encouragement to the NAACP on our dear brother's behalf?
It does not need to be a long, complicated letter. Rather, it should simply ask/encourage the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, namely Atty. Christina Swarns, to please consider Keith LaMar's case very seriously and step in during this most critical stage. You can add anything else you personally want to say, of course. Here's the address:
Atty. Christina Swarns
Litigation Director
NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund
40 Rector Street, 5th floor
New York, NY 10006
We thank you in advance. Keith is very much heartened by this latest turn of events, because his hope is to finally gain a team who will actually fight for him, something any of us would want for ourselves or our loved ones.
In solidarity,
Keith and the team
PS--Please let us know when you have sent out a letter --we'd like to gauge how much pressure has been applied on the NAACP for proper follow-up. Thank you!
